I'm d/l'ing them now so I'll get back to you with my vote as and when I've listened to them.

    Cheers for the link, Kat.

OK - my opinion (for what its worth *lol*)

Firstly, as Clay's version comes from a radio broadcast, the clarity is not as good as the DH one but that's not Clay's fault so......I don't particularly like his voice very much to be honest. I'm wondering 2 things. 1) Did he have a cold when he recorded this? and 2) has he got a lisp? cos he sounds like he's got both to me (but again that may be due to the quality of the file).

Secondly, I prefer Darren's vocals by a long way but the music is lacking so I'm assuming that this might have been a demo recording? If it isn't a demo, then the music is pretty bland, imo.

Thirdly, and most importantly (to me at any rate) I don't like the song very much anyway. Sorry, but I really don't. *shrugs* I think it's one of D's lesser compositions so I'm happy for him to have given it to someone else to record.

lol your allowed to hate the song. Yes its a demo... and yes well as with all DH spin songs their is no music.

I dont know why I like it.. prolly cause I didnt ever overplay it due to not having it. So every so often when I do I can handle it.

yeah its fine for Clay to have it.. but its still not a great version of it LOL

I don't hate the song Kat but I don't rate it that highly either. It's 'ok-ish' but bland, imo. D can do and has done so much better.

OK I have finally accessed and d/l Clay's version of it. I too much prefer Darren's vocals in this song, but the music sounded better in Clay's version. If the two could be combined, it would be a much better of this song

I think it's such a shame that Spin on the whole didn't have more real instruments on it because it just didn't do Darren's vocals justice. I Miss You is a case in point. The remixed version (Dallas Austin Remix) is a far more beefed up version musically and gives the song more strength to it. I am hoping and praying that his new album has much more in the way of real instruments on it.

SG were never that far from electronica but the difference was in the use of real instruments and the arrangements of the songs themselves. I am firmly of the opinion that Daniel's contribution was definitely under-estimated in some quarters cos IMO that guy has real talent musically

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I absolutely agree with that Janie. I'd also go as far as saying that DH solo isn't a patch on DH + Daniel. Sure, some of his lyrics are still as amazing as they were in the days of SG but there's definately something missing/lacking in his solo work and that something is Dan.

As for the music (in general) side of 'Spin', 1 word sums it up for me and that word is 'grim'. As I've always said about 'Spin', it's lyrically competent and muscially bereft.

<font size="3" face="Tempus sans ITC, Papyrus,Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yep totally agree.. Daniel was definately a big part of the magic of the whole combo. I mean that is why it was magic the combo of them both.

Spin had a few good moments lyric wise but on the whole even the lyrics were of average quality. I couldnt believe that the same guy who wrote the songs. Musically it was a disaster. I think the ONLY thing that even held it together really was Darrens voice.

I think the only songs that Darren really pulled off on Spin were Insatiable, LION, Spin and WYWTB. Now with the exception of Spin I think, the others were done with similar musical arrangements as per Walter Afanasieff doing the piano arrangements on TBAACM and that's probably why they worked.

It always gets back to SG and us missing the magic that was both of them working together doesn't it? They just fitted together so well musically and I really miss them I am wondering if Daniel ever had any input lyrically into any of SG's songs or whether they were all Darren's words? Just curious.
